Graduated in Biological Sciences from the São Paulo State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho (1990). Master in Biology from the University of New Brunswick, St. John, Canada (1994). Doctorate in Zoology from the University of Toronto, Canada (1999). He is an advisor and professor at the Universidade de São Paulo, Department of Zoology. He is also the curator of the helminthological collection of the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo (MSUSP). Interest and research activity: diversification of neotropical elasmobranchs and parasites, molecular systematics, cladistic theory, and larval evolution and phylogeny of Brachyura.
